New Covers!
In 2024 Ha’ikū Press re-released all my titles with new covers! Now we have a fresh look to match the Legend and Flux covers! What’d you think?
While we all strive to not judge a book by its cover, let’s face it, we do quite a bit of visual analysis with our eyes first. It’s why we look at that good-looking guy getting coffee. Maybe even check out his butt in those nice designer jeans that leave nothing to the imagination. Then he turns around, bumps you on his way out the door, spilling your coffee down your front, without so much as a backward glance or a sorry. Cover was gorgeous. Inside material? No thanks.
In the romance arena, covers can become cult hits that soon are copied ad nauseam by large publishing firms to cash in on the excitement. I, for many years, thought that half-naked men on my covers was the way to go. That we would attract our readers through sensuality. Then two years ago I thought, why am I putting men on my covers like a tasty treat when the books are these incredible adventures with strong (and strong-headed) women that just so happen to have visceral heart-pounding love interwoven? I wanted a story first, and heart-pounding sex scenes as the aperitif. Otherwise, the poor baes who pick up the novel thinking (dare I say hoping!) for erotic sex from page one, were undoubtedly going to be disappointed. Erotica is dessert first and on every page. We’re not that.
With these new covers we’re a step toward an authentic representation of the stories within. I hope you like them. If you ever see James T. Egan of Bookfly Design, give him a high-five; he does excellent work.
XOXO,
